About this book

Hope is not a mood that turns up on the good days. It is a resource, the one that keeps us living well, and a life has many moments that call for it. A new chapter. A season of change. A stretch where the ground moves under you. In every one of those moments the real question is not whether you have what it takes. It is whether you can reach it.

Seven gates, seven ways in: holding, empowerment, connection, imagination, presence, spirit and community. Each one is a resource you are already carrying. Each chapter opens its gate, tells the true story of a woman who found her own way through it, and then hands you the exact creative practice that brought her there, to do in your own journal.

Nothing in this book asks you to fix anything, because it does not treat you as something that needs fixing. It works the other way around. It assumes that everything you need is already in you, and it spends a hundred and sixty pages showing you where to look.

This is a course, not a book you only read

Each of the seven gates is a complete lesson, and they are all built the same way. You are never left holding an idea with nothing to do about it.

1

The teaching, then a real story

What the resource is, and one woman who found her own way to it, in her own words.

2

Guided imagery

A full journey written out word for word, to read slowly or record and listen to with your eyes closed.

3

Creative expression

The list of materials you need, down to the last pen, before you start.

4

A numbered process

Step one to step six, with a photograph at every step, so you always know what the page should look like now.

How the book works

Seven gates, seven resources

Holding, empowerment, connection, imagination, presence, spirit, community. One full chapter each, and every one of them is already yours.

A real story at every gate

Yochi, Michal, Aliza, Hana, Anat, Orit, Vered. Seven women, seven journeys, told in their own words.

A practice you can actually do

Designing a journal cover, an object of inner strength, a power animal, a garden of resilience, a tree of inner resources.

Gentle by design

Image first and non clinical. Nothing here asks you to analyse yourself or explain yourself to anyone. Therapists and facilitators use it in sessions as it is.

About the method, and about me

I am an art therapist, and I was keeping a visual journal long before I ever taught one. What turned a private habit into a method was watching it work on other people. A woman who could not find a single word for what she was carrying would sit down with paper, glue and color, and by the end of the session she had said all of it.

That is what SoulPages is. Seven elements and a clear structure, simple enough to follow alone at your kitchen table on a Tuesday night, strong enough for a facilitator to hold a whole group with. Since 2016 I have been training facilitators in it, and my intention is not a small one: to bring this method to every place in the world that needs it. It changes lives, and I have watched it happen too many times to say it any more carefully than that.
